Transform Consulting Group wants local nonprofits to know that the Department of Education has five new grant opportunities available. These grants are meant to expand fundamental knowledge and understanding of developmental and school readiness outcomes for infants and toddlers with or at risk for disability, and of education outcomes for all students from early childhood education through postsecondary and adult education. The grant competitions are for (1) education research, (2) education research training, (3) education research and development centers, (4) statistical and research methodology in education, and (5) partnerships and collaborations focused on problems of practice or policy. The education research topics include:

• Cognition and Student Learning

• Early Learning Programs and Policies

• Education Technology

• Effective Teachers and Effective Teaching

• English Learners

• Improving Education Systems: Policies, Organization, Management,

  and Leadership

• Mathematics and Science Education

• Postsecondary and Adult Education

• Reading and Writing

• Social and Behavioral Context for Academic Learning

Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to, non-profit and for-profit organizations and public and private agencies and institutions, such as colleges and universities. Although Congress has not yet enacted an appropriation for fiscal year 2014, the Institute of Education Sciences is inviting applications for these competitions now so that it may give applicants adequate time to prepare their applications before the competitions take place. The Department may announce additional topics later in 2013. Estimated awards range from $40,000 to $1,000,000 per year for a 3 to 5 year funding period, depending on the grant program. The deadline for applications is September 4, 2013. For more information, click here.
