$100 Million Youth Career Connect Grant Program

Graduation PhotoThe U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced the availability of approximately $100 million in grant funds for the Youth Career Connect grant program. Organizations and schools promoting a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) focus should check out this grant opportunity!

The program is designed to provide high school students with education and training that combines rigorous academic and technical curricula focused on specific in-demand occupations and industries for which employers are using H-1B visas to hire foreign workers as well as the related activities necessary to support such training to increase participants’ employability in H-1B in-demand industries and occupations.  The core elements of the Youth Career Connect Program include:

1. Integrated Academic and Career-Focused Learning

2. Employer Engagement

3. Individualized Career and Academic Counseling

4. Work-based Learning and Exposure to the World of Work

5. Program Sustainability

6. Program Performance and Outcomes

Grants must be awarded to partnerships of private and public sector entities. Eligible lead applicants, who will serve as the fiscal agent for grants under this solicitation, must be a public or non-profit local workforce entity, a local education agency, or a non-profit entity with program model experience. Applicants are required to provide a match of 25 percent of the grant award.  The deadline for applications is January 27, 2014.  For more information, click here.
