The Parent Toolkit App is a one-stop shop resource produced and developed with parents and families in mind. Produced by NBC News Education Nation and sponsored by Pearson, this free toolkit is available in English and Spanish on iOS (Apple) and Android devices to help families participate in their children’s academic success and personal growth.
During App development, experts from across the country—including classroom teachers, college professors, pediatricians, dietitians, psychologists, and families—provided input to make this resource as robust and useful as possible. Users can share tips on social networks, create family profiles, and mark items as priorities, among many other application features.
Studies show children whose families are involved in their education do better in school. The Parent Toolkit App helps organize information that aligns with children’s academic progress from Pre-K through 12th grade. The goals of this toolkit are to give families a clear understanding of what is expected of children at each step in their academic journey, and to provide tips and tools to help families engage in and monitor their children’s academic development.
The Parent Toolkit App website and mobile app includes:
- A “growth chart” containing grade-by-grade academic benchmarks for Pre-K through 12th grade in Math and English.
- Tips and resources for families to support their children’s learning for Pre-K through 12th grade.
- A guide to parent-teacher conferences and school counselor meetings.
- A newsfeed with stories, blog posts, and videos from a variety of sources.
