“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception,” Former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
March is Women’s History Month and a time to reflect on the history and achievements of women. As a woman, I can’t help but think about all the women in my life who mentored, coached, and guided me – both personally and professionally. Each played a unique role in molding me into the woman I am today. For that, I am grateful.
My employer, Transform Consulting Group (TCG), is a Women Business Enterprise (WBE), so it’s impossible to ignore Women’s History Month and its significance. As the month comes to an end, we at TCG find ourselves reflecting and celebrating women’s achievements.
Women’s History Month’s theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.” The theme recognizes the 100-year battle for women to have a voice. The fight in 1920 was for women’s right to vote. Now, more than 100 years later, I get to vote and play other vital roles in our society.
Today, women are continuing to make their voices heard in the workforce, home, and communities. In our blog about women in philanthropy, we highlight the increasing value and role women play in fundraising. Additionally, we see a growing trend of women making other important decisions for their families and workplaces. It’s an exciting time to be a woman. The opportunities for engaging women in the critical work our clients represent are endless.
The story of our Founder and President, Amanda Lopez, is a perfect example of the unique opportunities we women now have because so many fought for us years ago. With a passion for serving others, she started TCG in 2008. You can learn more about her story here or see her share her passion in our #WhyITransform video series. I am fairly new to the TCG team, but already recognize and appreciate how Amanda is paving the way for women like me.
At TCG, we see firsthand the critical role women play in moving the needle while we support clients. Internally, our team make up is primarily women. These are women who work tirelessly for clients every day on the clock. They also serve on boards, volunteer, and financially support causes on their own time (take a look at each of our staff bios to learn more).
We encourage you to spend a moment reflecting on how your organization engages women. Are women represented in the clients you serve, your volunteers, your individual donors, on your Board of Directors, or on your staff? Do you have systems and policies in place to equip and empower women to use their unique skills and expertise?
If your answer is ‘no’ to the questions above, let’s have a chat! At TCG, we’re passionate about bringing diverse stakeholders to the table to make an impact. And we firmly believe women belong at the table.
