Transform Consulting Group sees the Ripple Effect that the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) is having in our community. Administered by a federal agency called the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the SIF creates public-private partnerships to fund community-based nonprofits with evidence of strong results. The SIF awards grants between $1 million and $10 million per year for up to five years to private grant making intermediaries. Those private intermediaries then match the federal funds and make awards to hundreds of nonprofit subgrantees that are working across the country in the areas of economic opportunity, youth development, and health.
Partners often include national and local foundations, nonprofit organizations, local public agencies, colleges and universities, interested individuals, and more. Here is a list of subgrantee locations and their related private fund matching partners, some of which include Transform Consulting Group’s clients:
- The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation ($5.25 million in five states, including Indiana): Gateway to College National Network — Builds the capacity of colleges, school districts and states to revolutionize education for high school dropouts and underprepared college students so that all young people can achieve academic credentials.
- Local Initiatives Support Corporation ($800,000): Flanner House of Indianapolis, Hawthorne Community Center, John H. Boner Community Center, Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center, Shepherd Community, Inc., and Southeast Community Services — These neighborhood-based, one-stop resource centers help the working poor develop, grow, and protect their assets.
- New Profit Inc. ($1.85 million to national organizations with a local presence in Indiana): College Summit and YouthBuild USA — These organizations help at risk young people make successful transitions from high school to lifelong professional and educational success and self-sufficiency.
- Jobs for the Future ($300,000 for an organization serving the I-65 corridor in southern Indiana and Kentucky): WIRED65 Regional Workforce Partners — Provide skills assessments, career pathways, and training opportunities to jobseekers and incumbent workers tailored to the needs identified by employer partnerships in the targeted sectors of health care, health enterprises, and advanced auto manufacturing.
