In the United States, there is an increasing demand for skilled workers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). However, we have an insufficient supply of skilled workers and students pursuing degrees in this field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, only 5% of U.S. workers are employed in fields related to science and engineering, yet they are responsible for more than 50% of our sustained economic expansion.

The nation’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has responded by developing a Disease Detective Camp for middle and high school students. The summer camp provides a project-based, hands-on learning experience for students to explore the field of public health and science. The summer camp is located at CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta, GA.
