Foundation Center’s Free “Ask a Librarian” Online Program

by | Dec 6, 2013

Foundation_Center_LogoA great resource for nonprofits is the Foundation Center’s free “Ask a Librarian” online program, which answers questions about foundations, philanthropy, fundraising, and nonprofits. Established in 1956 and today supported by close to 550 foundations, the Foundation Center is the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. Reference librarians are available to chat live online in real time on Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time). Questions can also be emailed to the Foundation Center’s librarians anytime using the online form or directly at: onlinelibrarian@foundationcenter.org.

Before submitting information requests, the Foundation Center encourages interested individuals to consult their Knowledge Base. The Knowledge Base includes information about finding grants, grant writing, how to start a nonprofit, and nonprofit management. There is also a free Foundation Directory Online, which provides public access to essential information about nearly 90,000 foundations and over 250,000 IRS Forms 990-PF. Funder profiles include contact information, fields of interest, program areas and fiscal information.
