Brackets for Good Fundraising Tournament

by | Dec 23, 2013

Brackets for Good LogoBrackets For Good is an Indianapolis based charitable organization that has turned “March Madness” into a way to help local nonprofits.  Every March, Brackets for Good hosts a single-elimination, bracket-style fundraising tournament for local nonprofits.  Sixty-four nonprofits are competing for the Brackets for Good 2014 Crown.  New this year are Tournament Divisions, which group nonprofits together based on the resources available to them, creating more competitive match-ups.   The steps to this no-cost fundraising competition are:

  1.       Initial Signup – nonprofit organizations in Indianapolis, Washington, DC, or any other city interested in starting a tournament register online (prior to the end of the year).
  2.       501(c)(3) Status Verified – every registered organization’s 501(c)3 status is verified with GuideStar.com and the IRS. Those with confirmed 501(c)3 status are given “Registered” status and move onto the next step.
  3.       BFG Evaluation – Every January all registered nonprofit organizations are sent an evaluation form to further qualify them for participation in that year’s tournament.
  4.       Bracketology – The entire Brackets For Good team reviews all submitted evaluation forms and meets to perform their own “bracketology”.  During that meeting the organizations are selected and brackets are formed.

Shepherd Community Center was crowned Indianapolis Champion of 2013 and raised over $36,000 by themselves and took home an extra $5,000 from a title sponsor.  The Indianapolis tournament as a whole brought in over $85,000 for 16 nonprofit organizations, and this year’s tournament is expected to be bigger and better.  Transform Consulting Group client Girls on the Run of Hamilton County participated in last year’s tournament, along with other well-known organizations like the Mozel Sanders Foundation, Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, YMCA Camp Tecumseh, and the IPS Education Foundation.

Transform Consulting Group is always looking to share creative fundraising opportunities for nonprofits.  Is your organization looking for fundraising help?  Contact us today for a free consultation!
